Diflunisal

Diflunisal is a medicine that belongs to the group of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or NSAID (the abbreviation of this group of medicines which is far more often encountered in medicine literature than its full name). The very term gives us initial information on the content and the function of the drug. The NSAI drugs do not contain steroidal substances at all and they have the main function of inhibiting inflammatory reactions in case of various medical conditions. By inhibition of synthesis of some hormones or amino acids, the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs reduce the pain and inflammation caused by medical conditions of various kinds, from the skeletal and muscular issues to problems concerning headache and migraine attacks.

Diflunisal was developed for the first time in the remote year of 1971 in its first home which was one of the most renowned houses of the pharmaceutical industry, Merk & Co. by the also very renowned Merk Sharp & Dohme. Diflunisal came as a result of a research project which consisted of studying the more potent chemical analogs of aspirin. From then onwards, this product has been sold in the market under various names, however Dolobid is the name which was the most frequent for this drug. It comes in tablets of 250 and 500 milligrams and it is intended for oral use. By oral use we mean that the medicine should be swallowed the whole (you should not chew it or crush it, but take it as it is) with a big glass of water or milk during or right after your meal. It is not recommendable to take this medicine on empty stomach because it can cause troubles concerning the digestive system.

Diflunisal (Dolobid) is an amino acid aggregate from the group of NSAI drugs which is intended to reduce mild to moderate pain, as well as inhibit inflammation, swellings and stiffness. It also has the purpose of relieving the pain in the joints, most often felt in the most frequent forms of arthritis which are the osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It is also used for relieving pains that have occurred acutely, most often when oral surgery comes to question, or dental pains to be more precise.

We already know in which cases this drug is mostly used, however, we still have not mentioned the processes our body experiences after taking this drug which lead to these effects. Like we have mentioned above, this drug is a generic NSAID, therefore its main chemical reaction is inhibiting the synthesis of prostaglandin, a hormone which synthesis is in charge of most inflammatory reactions of our body. This drug is noticed to reduces fever, however, the pharmacists did not put it as a recommendable use, which means that you should try some other kind of medicine when having this problem. As all NSAIDs, it has the purpose of a painkiller, when a sudden and unexpected pain is experienced. In cases of sharp and sudden pain, the drug is taken the moment you feel it, however, this drug is used regularly as prescribed by your doctor in case of chronic conditions. About that, in case you have forgotten to take one dose, take it as soon as you remember and warn your doctor about it in time, maybe he/she will give you another schedule of taking the medicine. You should by no means take a higher than the prescribed dosage because in case of overdose you would feel symptoms of tachycardia, vomiting and insomnia, or even coma and when taken in 15 grams (solely, without being mixed with other medicines), it was even noticed to cause death in many cases (mixed with other medicines if it has the presence of only 7.5 grams it certainly causes death). Take your medicine wisely and feel only the qualities of good medical treatment using diflunisal.
